Ryder Cup Events

A Ryder Cup-style event is a multi-round team competition where two teams go head to head across several rounds of matchplay. Golfify lets you run this format with a group team leaderboard, and you can optionally add individual Stableford or Strokeplay leaderboards so players can track their personal performance alongside the team result.

Before you begin

Make sure you're familiar with creating multi-round events in Golfify, as Ryder Cup events use the multi-round structure.

What is a Ryder Cup-style event?​

Inspired by the professional Ryder Cup, this format pits two teams against each other over multiple rounds:

  • Two teams compete across multiple rounds (e.g. foursomes, fourballs, singles)
  • Each round can use a different format — individual matchplay, pairs matchplay, or better ball
  • The group team leaderboard tracks cumulative points across all rounds
  • An optional individual leaderboard lets players see their personal scores alongside the team result

This format works well for annual inter-club matches, society rivalries, and any event where you want the drama of team vs team competition.

How to set it up​

  1. From the Home Screen, tap the + button and select Multi-Round Event.

  2. Name your event (e.g. "Annual Ryder Cup") and enter the event details.

  3. Choose your leaderboard type:

    • Group Team — team leaderboard only
    • Individual and Group Team — both team and individual leaderboards (recommended for the full Ryder Cup experience)

  4. Set the scoring method to Match Play.

  5. Configure the number of teams — typically 2 (e.g. Team USA vs Team Europe).

  6. Set the number of players per team.

  7. Tap Create to set up the event.

Configure rounds​

Each round in a Ryder Cup event can use a different format. For example:

  • Round 1 — Foursomes (alternate shot) or pairs matchplay
  • Round 2 — Better ball / fourballs
  • Round 3 — Individual matchplay (singles)

To configure each round:

  1. Tap the gear icon → Host Menu → Event Settings.

  2. You'll see the round list with Overall Event at the top and individual rounds below.

  3. Tap a round row to open Round Settings and adjust the format, scoring, and course for that round.

tip

Settings configured at the Overall Event level flow down to each round by default. You only need to open individual round settings if you want a different format for a specific round.

Add teams and players​

  1. Go to Host Menu → Player Manager.

  2. Tap Add Team to create your two teams. Customise each team with a name, logo, and colour — these appear on the leaderboard.

  3. Add players to each team.

  4. Tap the TEE SHEETS tab and assign players to tee times for each round.

Add an individual leaderboard​

To track individual scores alongside the team matchplay:

  1. Tap the gear icon → Host Menu → Leaderboard Settings.

  2. Toggle on the Stableford or Strokeplay leaderboard.

  3. Players can switch between leaderboard views by tapping the relevant chip on the LEADERBOARD tab.

This lets players see their personal scores for each round while the main team leaderboard tracks matchplay points.

Activate and score​

  1. Go to the HOME tab and activate each round when it's ready.

  2. Players enter scores on their scorecards as usual.

  3. The team leaderboard updates in real time with matchplay points.

  4. If individual leaderboards are enabled, those update simultaneously.

Close rounds before starting the next

Make sure you end a round before activating the next one. This prevents players from entering scores in the wrong round.
