Set Fixed Team Nicknames

Running a team event where the default list of surnames doesn't quite capture the spirit? Team Nicknames let you replace the standard leaderboard labels with a single custom name per team — like "Tiger's Team" or "The Hackers". It's a small touch that makes scrambles, society days, and Ryder Cup–style events feel more personal.

When to use this

Team Nicknames work in Fixed Team events where teammates play together in the same grouping (pairs, 3-person, or 4-person teams). They're not available for individual-only events or group-team setups where teammates are spread across different groupings.

Set a team nickname​

You only need to set the nickname on one player in the team — it applies to the whole team automatically.

  1. From your event, tap the gear icon to open the Host Menu.

  2. Tap Player Manager to open the Players & Tee Sheet screen.

  3. Tap the PLAYERS tab.

  4. Tap any player in the team you want to name.

  5. Tap Edit player details.

  6. Enter a name in the Team nickname field.

  7. Tap Save.

  8. Open the LEADERBOARD tab to see the nickname displayed for that team.

Remove or reset a team nickname​

If you want to revert to the default surname display:

  1. Go to Host Menu → Player Manager.

  2. Tap a player from the team.

  3. Tap Edit player details.

  4. Tap Reset names, then Save.

The leaderboard reverts to showing the original player surnames.

How it works​

Team Nicknames are display-only — they change the label on the leaderboard but don't affect scoring, handicaps, or results in any way. The nickname is stored against the team's grouping, so it persists across rounds in multi-round events.

A few things to know:

  • Set on one teammate, applied to all. You don't need to edit every player — setting the nickname on any one member updates the whole team's leaderboard entry.
  • Editable at any time. You can set, change, or remove nicknames before, during, or after the event.
  • Works across rounds. In multi-round events, the nickname carries through to all rounds and the overall leaderboard.

Keep names short and readable. They need to fit on phone screens, tablets, and TV Leaderboards. Avoid special characters that may not render consistently across all devices.

Troubleshooting​

Nickname not showing on the leaderboard

Make sure your event uses a Fixed Team format and that teammates are grouped together on the tee sheet. If players are in separate groupings, nicknames won't appear.

Still seeing surnames after saving

Try refreshing the leaderboard. If the surname persists, open the player's details and confirm the nickname was saved correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions​

Do I have to set the nickname on the team captain?

No. Setting it on any teammate updates the whole team. Pick whoever is most convenient.

Can I change nicknames during a live event?

Yes. Edit the nickname, save, and the leaderboard updates immediately.
