Shotgun Starts

A shotgun start means every group tees off at the same time, each from a different hole. It's a popular choice for tournaments and society days where you want all players to start and finish around the same time. Golfify makes it easy to set up and customise starting holes for each group.

Set up a Shotgun Start​

  1. Open your event and tap the gear icon to open the Host Menu.

  2. Tap Event Settings.

    For a multi-round event, tap Event Settings, then select the specific round you want to configure from the round list.

  3. Tap Capacity & Tee Sheet.

  4. Toggle on the Shotgun Start option.

  5. Tap Save to apply the changes.

How it looks on the Tee Sheet​

Once Shotgun Start is enabled, the Tee Sheet automatically assigns sequential starting holes to each grouping:

  • Grouping 1 starts at Hole 1
  • Grouping 2 starts at Hole 2
  • Grouping 3 starts at Hole 3
  • And so on.

All groups tee off at the same time, each from their assigned hole.

Customise starting holes​

You can manually change the starting hole for any group, whether or not you're using a shotgun start. This is useful when you want to start extra groups on par 5s or avoid specific holes.

  1. Go to the gear icon → Host Menu → Tee Sheet.

  2. Tap the settings icon above the grouping you want to adjust.

  3. Tap Change Start Hole.

  4. Select the desired starting hole and confirm.

You can use Change Start Hole on individual groupings even without enabling Shotgun Start. This is handy if just one or two groups need to start from a different hole.

What players see​

When a player starts entering scores, Golfify checks whether they're scoring from their assigned starting hole. If a player begins on a different hole, Golfify prompts them with an option to adjust their starting hole to match. This helps avoid scoring errors and keeps the leaderboard accurate.

Fix invalid scores from wrong starting holes​

If a player accidentally starts scoring from the wrong hole and their scores appear as invalid on the leaderboard:

  1. Go to the gear icon → Host Menu → Tee Sheet.

  2. Tap the settings icon above the affected grouping.

  3. Tap Change Start Hole and set it to the hole the player actually started on.

This regenerates the player's scores and resolves the issue on the leaderboard.

If you see invalid scores on the leaderboard during a shotgun start, check the starting hole assignment first. Mismatched starting holes are the most common cause.
