Set Up Special Contests

Want to add a Long Drive or Closest to the Pin challenge to your event? Special Contests in Golfify let you run bonus competitions on specific holes, each with its own leaderboard. Players enter directly from the scorecard as they play the hole.

Before you begin

Make sure you've already created an event. You can add Special Contests during event creation or afterwards from the event settings.

Add a Special Contest​

  1. From your event, tap the gear icon to open the Host Menu.

  2. Tap Event Settings, then scroll to Special Contests.

  3. Tap Add Contest.

  4. Give your contest a name (e.g. "Long Drive" or "Closest to Pin").

  5. Choose the hole where the contest will take place.

  6. Optionally add entry rules or instructions so players know what's expected.

  7. Choose an entry type (see below).

  8. Tap Save.

tip

Keep contest names short — under ten characters is ideal. The name appears on the leaderboard and needs to fit on a phone screen.

Contest Entry Types​

When setting up a contest, you choose how entries are recorded:

Timestamp​

The contest tracks the last player to submit an entry. This simulates a physical course marker — whoever submits last is the current leader, just as the person who hits farthest replaces the name on the sign.

Best for: Long Drive contests where a marshal records the current leader on the course.

Measured​

Players enter a specific value — such as a distance in metres, number of shots, or proximity to the hole. The leaderboard ranks entries by this value.

Best for: Closest to the Pin contests where each player's distance from the hole is measured and recorded.

How Players Enter​

When a player reaches the designated hole during their round, the scorecard shows an option to enter the Special Contest.

  1. On the scorecard, the contest name appears on the relevant hole.

  2. The player taps to submit their entry — either a simple submission (Timestamp) or a measured value (Measured).

  3. The entry is recorded and appears on the contest leaderboard.

View the Contest Leaderboard​

Special Contest results appear alongside your main leaderboard.

  1. Tap the LEADERBOARD tab in your event.

  2. Swipe right past the main scoring columns to find the Special Contest section.

  3. Each contest has its own column showing the current leader and entries.

Edit or Remove a Contest​

You can update or remove Special Contests at any time from the event settings.

  1. Go to Host Menu → Event Settings → Special Contests.

  2. Tap on an existing contest to edit its name, hole, entry type, or rules.

  3. To remove a contest, tap Delete on the contest you want to remove.
